Santa
Fe Fire & Rescue takes great pride in training its members as
skilled firefighters. Before any new member is allowed to enter a
burning structure he or she must complete an 80 hour basic
firefighter's course that teaches basic firefighting skills. Santa Fe
Fire & Rescue also holds weekly training drills to help members
attain their firefighter certifications through the State Firemen's & Fire
Marshal's Association to the levels of Basic,
Intermediate, Advanced and Master Firefighters. Firefighter's are also
sent to the TEEX
Annual Municipal Fire School
at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. For one full week out
of
the year firefighters attend classes such as Firefighting Phases I-V,
Automobile Extrication, Officer Development, and various other courses.
All of our members have completed the training to be fully compliant
with the National Incident Management System (NIMS). NIMS was developed by the Federal
Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) so responders from different
jurisdictions and
disciplines can work together better to respond to natural disasters
and emergencies, including acts of terrorism. NIMS benefits include a
unified approach to incident management; standard command and
management structures; and emphasis on preparedness, mutual aid and
resource management.

Santa Fe Fire & Rescue EMS personnel are certified through the Texas Department of
State Health Services as Emergency Medical Technicians at the
Basic, Intermediate, and Paramedic levels. EMT's must also complete a
certain amount of
continuing education training every four years to keep their
certifications current.
